Fascinated to find out that the colours I've been drawn to paint with, particularly when it comes to my palette knife pieces, are made up of the 2017 Benjamin Moore Color Trends Palette! Who knew!
In all honesty, I seldom pay attention to these things, though I know I probably should. Instead I just go with what Im drawn to in any given painting. So when I saw this showing up in social media streams, curiosity got the best of me.
Colour is such an intimate, individual thing, just as varied and intuitive as people's reactions to art. Abstract, can perhaps be the most challenging to the viewer, it forces you to respond from a purely emotional, gut reaction. There is no image to remind you of a memory or special place, just colour, movement, and flow that pulls some people in and they are moved in ways not easily understood or expressed. It's those moments, that are deeply satisfying to me as an abstract artist, when someone connects, compelled by a painting they struggle to find words to explain the pull.
Speaking of colour, we are in the middle of natures 'whiteout' snow is blowing fiercely and drifts are pilling up! So I'll keep the wood fire burning and my pallet knife busy developing this big boy. Here's to the many faces of colour!
